Tony Rigby

I have been a financial planner since 1989 after working in small business for eight years. In the early years most of my work involved insurance and superannuation as an agent with the AMP Society. At the same time I went back to study and developed my knowledge and skills as a financial planner.

I have been married for twenty-six years and we have two children. In my view, financial literacy, learning to budget, setting goals and planning starts in the home, so I have plenty of experience on that front. This has lead to much of the community work I do.

For me, giving back to the community is critical. I've always been passionate about helping families get ahead and learning to be financially educated and self-reliant to a large degree.

On weekends for many years, I ran financial workshops for the Anglican Family Care marriage preparation courses in Brisbane, helping young engaged couples to budget, understand mortgages and most importantly, avoiding conflict with money; one of the greatest contributors to marriage failure today.

Centrelink engaged me for over a decade as one of their keynote speakers for their regular city and suburban seminars on the subjects of budgeting, wealth creation, superannuation and retirement planning. This also keeps me in touch with real Australians' views on our financial system overall.

Contributing to the Courier and Sunday Mail newspapers, conducting a radio interview or often a spot on our major TV channels interviewed on what's the topic of the day has kept me in touch with the real issues.

Speaking to school leavers on budgeting, saving, investing and debt have also been a favourite of mine. So to me, financial planning isn't just providing advice to clients, it's putting back into the community which makes a whole financial planner.

In between all of that and running a practice, family is still number one, as well as outrigger canoeing on the beautiful Brisbane River and church and charities.

I am a credit representative of AMP Financial Planning and am authorised to provide credit advice regarding how to structure debt, suitability of existing loan structures and repayment options. If you require advice involving mortgages or other lending products, I can refer you to an Accredited Mortgage Consultant.
